Working at a high-performing engineering firm can be stressful at times, but Maria Ospeg is excited to give a helping hand to our Edmonton team, literally.

“I’m here to help them manage their stress,” Maria said, “and at the same time, advise them on how they can manage that tension build-up.”

Design Works welcomed Maria to the office last week as the new Wellness Coordinator. As a certified massage therapist, Maria’s already started helping alleviate tension for the team, offering massages, stretching, and consultations on diet and nutrition.

It’s all part of a pilot program geared at improving employee wellness in the workplace. While most people think of the physical toll that happens on site, Maria points out that the office can offer many challenges as well.

“Most of you are working on the computer, sitting eight to five. It’s too much,” Maria said. “I can help with stretching, posture, and preventing injury.”

Our President and CEO, Haydar Al Dahhan, says the pilot program is geared at helping the team maintain its high work standards.

“Appointing a dedicated Wellness Coordinator like Maria reflects our commitment to redefining what it means to thrive at work,” Haydar said.

And while the office environment is a bit of a new one for Maria, she’s excited to take on this new challenge.

“I’m not really used to it yet, but I’m doing my best,” Maria said.
