Engineering for Good.

Giving Back, Building Forward
At Design Works Engineering, community has always been part of the job. We've built careers here, raised families here, and watched these cities grow. That connection means we don't treat community involvement as a checkbox — we show up because these places matter to us.
Pro Bono Projects That Matter
Some of our most rewarding work doesn't appear on an invoice. We've donated engineering services to the Kitchener Humane Society and Oak Acres Children's Camp — projects where a proper structure isn't a luxury, it's what makes the facility work. We bring the same rigour to these engagements as we do to any client project, because good engineering shouldn't be reserved for those with the biggest budget.

Supporting Local Communities
We believe a great company makes its city stronger. That's why Design Works Engineering is a founding sponsor of the Design Works Centre — a premier hockey facility in Kitchener-Waterloo that gives young athletes a place to train, compete, and grow. The connection to sport isn't accidental. Hockey, like engineering, is a team game built on preparation, precision, and follow-through. We're proud to put our name on a facility that reflects those values.
Investing in Future Engineers
The talent shortage in engineering doesn't fix itself. That's why our team regularly engages with schools, colleges, and universities — not to recruit, but to connect. We talk honestly about what a career in engineering looks like: the variety, the challenge, and the real impact you can have on the built environment. Several of our team members today first encountered DWE through a campus visit or co-op placement. That pipeline matters to us.

Welcoming Newcomers to the Industry
Canada's engineering workforce is stronger because of people who trained around the world and chose to build their careers here. We've made it a priority to connect with internationally trained professionals — offering mentorship, answering real questions about the licensing process, and opening our network to people who are still finding their footing. If you're new to the country or the industry, we want to be one of the first calls you make.
Looking Ahead
We're proud of what we've contributed, but we're not done. We plan to expand our pro bono commitments, deepen our relationships with schools and universities, and keep showing up for the communities that shaped this company. Engineering is, at its core, about improving people's lives. That mission doesn't stop at the property line.
