Welcome Aditya!

Design Works is proud to welcome Aditya Chhetri to the team as our new Energy Modeller!

It was while working on his Master’s degree that Aditya Chhetri, MSc uncovered a massive issue; buildings waste a tremendous amount of energy. The quest to tackle these kinds of issues is what eventually brought him to Design Works Engineering.

"I had a rough idea of what it’s like—especially in Western Canada—where buildings take up a significant portion of total energy use,” Aditya said. “Trying to find ways to reduce that kind of impact got me into energy modelling."

Aditya joined Design Works earlier this week as an Energy Modeller, having graduated from the University of Alberta with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering this past May. During his thesis, he focused largely on finding minimally intrusive retrofit strategies to reduce energy waste in buildings.

“I explored using window shading as a passive solar heat gain strategy in winter, and also as a way to reduce cooling energy consumption in summer across different climate zones in Western Canada,” Aditya said. His time at the University included energy modelling, field testing, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation.

“It was a pretty comprehensive Master’s degree.”

When the Energy Modeller role became available, Aditya was immediately attracted to how well the job description meshed with his educational history.

“I had done that work at an academic level, so getting the opportunity to do it in the industry on real-time projects really pushed me to apply,” Aditya said.

Outside of work, Aditya loves strumming on his guitar, cooking new foods and reading philosophical books. As he gets started in the industry, he’s looking forward to tackling new challenges and gaining more experience.

“Ultimately I see myself progressing in this domain, maybe to a senior level role, and working on even more exciting projects."

Welcome to the team, Aditya!
